Brushless alternators eliminate the wear-prone brushes and slip rings found in traditional designs. They pull cooling air through the housing from back to front, but without brushes there is nothing for dust to clog. Internal components such as the field coil, regulator, bridge and stator are stationary and more resistant to vibration and contamination.
